Our Mayor, Tony Keats, was awarded the 2023 World Mayor Community Award for his extraordinary service to his town and its people since 1996. He has shown that mayors from small communities can become role models for civic leaders everywhere.
With words of praise coming in from around the world, Mayor Tony, shocked many, himself included, by winning the World Mayor Community Award. Facing off against mayors from communities with much larger populations, it seemed like the chances were so slim. However the impact he has made is far beyond the boundaries of his municipality, and his dedication was shown to reflect that in this award.
An event was held for the presenting of the award, in which members of the community, and Premier Andrew Furey attended and spoke their praises of Tony and his work. Premier Furey presented Mayor Tony with the award.
